This short story is about Nathan's adventures during a 5th grade science field trip to the Sunbrook Forest National Park. Nathan is familiar with the park because he and his sister Iris has visited the park before with the encouragement of their mom. Nathan overcomes some anxieties of not liking the subject science, having to buddy with the 5th grade bully, and worrying about other 5th graders, teachers and volunteers might see Gob the gnome and cause problems for Gob and the park. By the end of the science fieldtrip Nathan has built a level of confidence that he could make the best science presentation in his classroom and together with the 5th grade bully develop a monthly 'Clean the Park' project where he and his classmates join to clean up the forest. a mother wanting her children to enjoy the outdoors. Nathan meets an interesting park ranger who later become very instrumental in his interest in science, the environment and his future career plan after high school.

This weekend, the 10 year old and I went to a she

This weekend, the 10 year old and I went to a she & me tea hosted by another Girl Scouts troop where we discussed the changes her body is going to go through. I was really impressed by how well it was done - they had experts in pediatrics, neurology, and women’s health talk to the kids and the adults in an inclusive and body-positive way about what to expect. I even learned a few things I didn’t know - and I’m 46 and have had 5 kids! She knew a lot because it’s been an ongoing conversation for us, but she said she learned things.

My favorite part was that they had the kids write their questions on paper in that notebook then tear the paper out and put it into a jar so that their questions would be anonymous if they were too shy to ask.

My child actually graffitied my nice dining room table and had the audacity to ask me how I knew it was her.

I know her handwriting.

No yelling or anything happened. Not necessary. I just handed her a microfiber cloth and hand sanitizer, wood cleaner, and lemon oil and asked her to clean and polish the table when she finished removing the Sharpie.

After, she apologized and said cleaning it off was a lot of work and she wouldn't do that again.

A very different experience for her than I had growing up.

And yes, the graffiti is gone as well as the stains from her good markers with no harm to the table.

Anyone else think they're superwoman? Back in November, I said I'd serve on a committee - that was before my brother made his second critical hospital stay in two months (he's doing okay now) and before my mother-in-law passed away on Christmas morning.

Today, I was feeling the crunch of obligations. I sent an email resigning from the committee. It's important to me - the arts - but I need more time to heal, get my knee in better working order, homeschool, and catch up on my businesses. Girl Scouts, of course, wasn't going to go, but this is... for now.

It feels weird stepping back from something, particularly something I just stepped up for, but at the same time, I needed to.
