Sofilantjes’ Silva Top and Tunic

It’s another new pattern release from Sofilantjes! If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of the patterns – both because the instructions are clear and because the fashion is fabulous. The Sylva Top and Tunic*  has a lot of fun options for you to customize and play with color and different prints. I tested the Sylva Top and Tunic, and I’m happy to share the results with you.

PATTERN DETAILS

There are two neckline options – the v-neck in both front and back (which is what I made) or a hooded version. There are three sleeve options: short sleeves with a sleeve band, 3/4 sleeves with a sleeve band (what I made), and full-length sleeves with color blocking and a wrist band.  There are two lengths – top and tunic. I made the top-length version.

ABOUT THE SYLVA TOP AND TUNIC’S CONSTRUCTION

The pattern is suitable for beginners, as it goes together pretty quickly. This is possibly the easiest v-neck neckband I’ve made thus far, since the band fits to each side of the bodice before attaching to the main body of the shirt. The pattern and it’s construction for sure make it appealing, since it is a shirt that a beginner can put together in an afternoon – and depending on the fabric combinations used, it’s a shirt that can make a huge splash. It’s also a nice option for using up scraps of knit fabrics that coordinate with each other. That’s always a good thing in my book, as I’ve got lots of bits and pieces of fabrics hanging about from various projects!

ABOUT THE FABRICS I USED

All of the fabrics in the test were ones I picked up from JoAnn’s Fabric and Crafts. The black I had leftover from another project. When my little gal saw the zebras, she went wild for them. (I still have plenty of them and the bulldog fabric from the Reagan raglan I recently made.) I matched the fuchsia and the green to glasses that the zebras are wearing. The fuchsia felt great – but when I was sewing it, it had a good bit more stretch than the green and zebra fabrics. I think the shirt is fine for my gal, but making the shirt for a customer, I would use a different fabric than it.
