Paprika Patterns Jasper Sweater Test Review

2014-11-29 16.06.46A couple months ago, I had the honor of working with an amazing designer, Lisa at Paprika Patterns. You may know her as the pattern maker of the Jade skirt – that skirt we all pinned on our Pinterest boards (rumor has it, she’s extending the sizes of that soon, so those of us who are curvier will be able to stitch it up without major alterations to the pattern – yay!) The Jasper pattern involves using sweater knit, and creating either a hooded sweater or a sweater dress.  I chose to make the sweater dress, and I’m so excited about its release – and that I’m able to share it with you.

Because this was a pattern test, I made no alterations to the pattern – I used size 10 based upon my measurements. I was nervous that it would be tight in the hips and waist, but it really wasn’t. It fit really well. The pattern was really easy to cut out, the directions were clear, except for the welt pockets. However, Lisa reworked the pockets and made the instructions for them much clearer in the pattern release.

I absolutely love this dress. It’s so much fun to wear, it’s really warm, and it’s super-chic. And would you believe it? I have more of this fabric to work with (I have plans for it already). I found it at the Salvation Army – it was $5 for 5 yards of it. I had the button on hand, and I re-finished it with paint so that it would fit with the vibe of the dress. I’ve worn it a bunch since making it. I’m thinking of making another one, with the final pattern. I just have to find the right fabric for it.

I want to make one up in french terry. I have some cherry red stashed. This reminds me of sweatshirt tunics my mom made me (before I took over my own sewing) in 1986-87. (I was 18) I wore them with leggings all the time.

    1. NIce! That will look really good. I’m a fan of cherry red (well, and bright colors in general). If I were really daring, I’d wear this with some black hose and this really hot pair of heels I have. I’m not that daring though…yet…
