Our family has been using All Free & Clear for years. I have sensitive skin and lots of allergies to lots of things. Generally, I try to avoid anything with fragrances, but that winds up leaving out a whole lot of options. When I was offered the chance to review Botanical Origin Laundry detergent, I was happy to do so. I chose the Orange Blossom & Citrus Leaves Scent.

What Is Botanical Origin?

Botanical Origin is a company that created plant-based laundry products that are intended to reduce individuals’ impacts upon the environment. Botanical Origin’s products are free from dyes and brighteners, tested to be safe for sensitive skin, and are packaged in post-consumer recycled plastic. The company is dedicated to launching renewable packaging and being carbon neutral in the future. Why am I mentioning these things? Because it’s really important to me that we work hard to reduce the impact we have on our environment.

About Botanical Origin Laundry Detergent

The detergent is formulated to handle tough stains including things like coffee and wine (I’m a self-spiller. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dripped coffee or wine on myself) and even spaghetti sauce. As already mentioned, it’s hypoallergenic and sensitive skin-friendly, and free from dyes and brighteners. It’s 67% plant-based and works in all water temperatures. You can use it for handwashing clothing, with regular washers, and with HE washers.

Ingredients include: Fatty Alcohol (a plant-based cleaning agent tht removes dirt, stains, and smells), Protease, Amylase, and Mannanase (these are natural bioenzymes that release protein stains, starch stains, and grease and oil stains), and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (a plant-derived cleaning agent that again removes dirt, stains, and bad smells).

The full list of ingredients is available on Botanical Origin’s website, here.

About Botanical Origin’s Fabric Softener

Like the detergent, Botanical Origin’s fabric softener is dye and paraben-free, and dermatologist-tested. It’s infused with essential oils that give it its scent. Like all fabric softeners, it’s intended to provide a fresh scent and softness to clothing and also to reduce static cling. The product is 71% plant-based and works with regular washers, HE washers, and handwashing. The packaging is made from 25% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Ingredients include dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate (a softening agent made from plants that helps enhance fabric softness and control static), lactic acid (an agent derived from plants that help keep products protected from bacterial spoilage during transit and storage), and calcium chloride (inorganic salt that allows the product to deliver the desired benefits.) The full list of ingredients can be found on the product website.

What I Thought of the Product

I really enjoyed the scent. I love citrus scents though and find them energizing, so that wasn’t a big surprise. What was a happy surprise is that the scent of the products is not overpowering. That’s great, because I can be pretty sensitive to stronger scents.

When testing, I didn’t have anything that was particularly dirty or stained, but everything did come out soft and clean. I do have a white Girl Scouts uniform shirt I spilled coffee on and one my daughter spilled ink on, so when I test those with the product, I’ll do a separate post about that. I was pleased with the sensation of the clothing when it came out of the drier. I tend to be really sensitive to how fabric softener makes clothing feel, and this did not bother my sensory sensitivities.
