What I Like to Do for Fun

With five kids, a husband, a house, and a business, it’s important to take some time to have fun. A lot of the fun things I do were turning into work, so I decided to stop with the handmade business so that sewing and making jewelry were once again “just a hobby.” Here are some of the things I like to do for fun.

Reading

I enjoy reading. My family has a pretty large library of books. Okay, huge library of books. I need to downsize a bit because, frankly, there are more books than any of us realistically will be able to read. That said, this past year, it was very nice to not be dependent on bookstores or libraries for new reading material.

Hiking, Kayaking, Archery, Camping – Being Outdoors

I love being outdoors. I’m lumping it all together because a lot of it happens while camping, but I’m trying to get more intentional again about taking regular hikes. Since I lead an active Girl Scouts troop, this is one of my favorite parts of it – getting kids outdoors and away from screens to see how beautiful our world really is.

Playing Board Games

We have a large collection of board games. I love gaming, and this is something else I would love to be more intentional about – maybe even having a regular board game night with our family. We have the space, it’s just a matter of setting it up and creating a routine.

Making Things and Crafting

Another thing I like to do for fun is making things and crafting. It’s a nice way to pass the time and there’s something usable at the end. I make holiday decorations, clothing items for myself and my family, jewelry, and other things. Sometimes I also paint.

Video Games

I like Sims 4. I also like a lot of the classic Nintendo and Sega games. I get a kick out of gaming with my kids, though I haven’t really explored Minecraft or Roblox – their favorite games – yet.
